Costello appointed to the CHIP Board of Directors

Lisa M. Costello, M.D., has recently been appointed as a citizen member to the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

CHIP provides children with age-appropriate screening and benefits, like dental coverage and access to mental health and substance abuse services.

“I plan to use my experience as a pediatrician and lifelong West Virginian to help ensure kids' needs are being met and advanced by ensuring access to this program,” Dr. Costello, an assistant professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, said.

WVCHIP reports to a governing board made up of citizen members, legislators, and state agency members, who are responsible for the program’s annual financial plan.

Costello is recognized on the legislative committee for the WV State Medical Association and serves as the vice president of the WV Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition, she holds a national position serving on the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Early Career Physicians Executive Committee as the District III Representative.

CHIP was established with bipartisan Congressional support in 1997 to provide coverage for uninsured children with families earning too much to qualify for Medicaid but too little to afford private health insurance.
