Patrick Thomas, an undergraduate student engaged in research at the WVU Cancer Institute, has been selected to participate in SURE, a summer undergraduate research experience for students interested in graduate school and research/creative work within their discipline or a related discipline.

As a SURE participant, Thomas will complete research for eight weeks this summer under the direction of Laura Gibson, PhD, senior associate vice president for the WVU Department of Research and Graduate Education.

His research focuses on the lipid metabolism of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common childhood cancer.

Thomas, also a 2015 and 2016 summer research fellow at the Cancer Institute, is the son of Tammy and Joe Thomas of Hurricane, West Virginia.
