WVU leaders discuss solutions to health issues at conference

By solving the health problems of West Virginia, the state may provide solutions for the rest of the country, according to three West Virginia University leaders.

WVU President E. Gordon Gee, Clay Marsh, MD, vice president and executive dean for health sciences, and Ali Rezai, MD, executive chair of the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, elaborated on why West Virginia may serve as a model in restoring health in the U.S. at the Fortune Brainstorm Health conference, held March 20 in Laguna Niguel, Calif. The WVU leaders discussed “Climbing Out of Last Place: West Virginia and Well-Being” at a session moderated by Arianna Huffington, founder and CEO of Thrive Global.

The event was organized to bring together top executives from a cross-section of U.S. industries to discuss health issues.

Fortune.com posted an article and video reviewing the comments of the WVU leaders.

The Fortune Brainstorm Health conference gathers leaders of top companies, hospitals, insurers, and cutting-edge pharma and biotech companies and executives of venture capital, tech and telecom, and other industries, all of whom are rapidly changing the face of healthcare. Sessions include discussion of personal wellness, intervention, research, and the value chain.
