Jefferson Medical Center announces support services move, helipad relocation

RANSON, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Jefferson Medical Center officials recently announced that several non-clinical departments of the hospital will be moving into the former BB&T building in Ranson in December.

Jefferson Medical Center (JMC) purchased the building at 301 S. Mildred Street earlier this year with plans to use the space as a support services center. The first departments planned to move are Patient Financial Services, Health Information Management (HIM) Human Resources, Security, Information Technology (IT), Education and the Simulation Lab.

“This building is a great fit for our support services departments allowing us to centralize many of them in one building that is located close to the hospital and accessible to the public,” Neil McLaughlin, vice president of operations, said.

McLaughlin also announced plans to relocate JMC’s helipad in 2020 for safety reasons. The current helipad is in the middle of an active parking lot and is across a public street from the hospital. “Pilots routinely comment that our helipad is one of the more challenging landing zones in the area,” McLaughlin said.

  1. the new helipad is constructed, it will be adjacent to the emergency department parking lot and will have upgrades in lighting and security to fulfill FAA requirements. The site will be higher in elevation and have a broader angle of approach and departure allowing greater flexibility in varying weather conditions.

“Safety and efficiency are of the utmost concern when transporting critically ill or injured individuals, so this helipad relocation is of great importance to our staff and the patients we serve,” McLaughlin said.
