More than 40 new providers join WVU Medicine in July

The following providers joined WVU Medicine in July:

MORGANTOWN

ANESTHESIOLOGY

Courtney Mechling, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an obstetric anesthesiologist at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Mechling trained at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Cy Mozingo, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a regional anesthesiologist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Mozingo trained at the University of North Carolina.

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE

Jeremy Hustead, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an addiction psychiatry specialist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He completed his fellowship and psychiatry residency at WVU.

Nathan Pearson, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency psychiatry specialist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Pearson will provide emergency psychiatry consultation and see patients with mood and addiction disorders. Dr. Pearson earned his medical degree at WVU and he was a chief psychiatry resident at WVU.

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Michelle Angeline, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency medicine physician at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Angeline completed an emergency medicine residency at WVU and joins the WVU Health System Acute Resource Group.

Nicholas Chill, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency medicine and sports medicine physician practicing at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Chill completed a sports medicine fellowship at WVU.

Joseph Hansroth, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency medicine physician in the WVU Health System Acute Resource Group at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Hansroth completed an emergency medicine residency at WVU.

ENDOCRINOLOGY

Nadia Barghouthi, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an endocrinologist at the Suncrest Towne Centre clinic. Dr. Barghouthi completed an endocrinology fellowship at WVU.

FAMILY MEDICINE

Courtney Pilkerton, MD, PhD, joins WVU Medicine as vice chair of research and a family medicine physician at WVU Medicine Morgantown South and University Town Centre locations. Dr. Pilkerton completed a family medicine residency at WVU as well as a MD/PhD program.

GASTROENTEROLOGY AND HEPATOLOGY

Asad Pervez, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a gastroenterology and hepatology physician at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Pervez completed a fellowship at the University of Kansas.

HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE

Robert Herron, III, DO, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute as a thoracic surgeon. Dr. Herron completed a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at WVU and a general surgery residency at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia.

Akram Mohammad Kawsara, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute as an interventional cardiologist. Dr. Kawsara completed a residency, a cardiovascular fellowship, and an interventional cardiology fellowship at WVU. He is a former clinical assistant professor for the WVU Charleston Division and a hospitalist at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston.

Iliana Hurtado Rendon, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute as an interventional cardiologist. Dr. Rendon completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at WVU and a general cardiology fellowship at Summa Health System, Akron City Hospital, and North East Ohio Medical University.

HEMATOLOGY AND ONCOLOGY

Ruta Arays, MD, joins the WVU Cancer Institute as a hematologist/oncologist. Dr. Arays completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at WVU.

Jean Bustamante-Alvarez, MD, joins the WVU Cancer Institute as hematologist/oncologist specializing in lung and thoracic cancers. Dr. Bustamante-Alvarez completed a fellowship at The Ohio State University.

Maria Hafez, MD, joins the WVU Cancer Institute as a hematologist/oncologist specializing in breast cancer and sarcoma. She completed a hematology and oncology fellowship at WVU.

HOSPITAL MEDICINE

Christopher Finch, DO, joins WVU Medicine as a hospitalist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Finch completed an internal medicine residency at WVU.

Mounish Karlapudi, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a hospitalist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Karlapudi was a hospitalist at Hancock Regional Hospital and Indiana University North, Saxony, and West.

Urooj Rana, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a hospitalist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She completed an internal medicine residency at WVU.

Tashnia Tahsin, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a hospitalist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She completed an internal medicine residency at University of Massachusetts.

NEPHROLOGY

Chirag Lavani, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a nephrologist at the Suncrest Towne Centre clinic. He completed a fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Khaled Shawwa, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a nephrologist at the Suncrest Towne Centre clinic. He completed a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic.

NEUROLOGY

Aman Dabir, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an epilepsy specialist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He completed fellowships in epilepsy and in clinical neurophysiology at Vanderbilt. He completed a neurology residency at WVU.

Mandy Hatfield, MD, joins the WVU Medicine neurology intensive care unit at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She completed a neurocritical care fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill and a neurology residency and medical degree at WVU.

Ugur Sener, MD, joins the WVU Cancer Institute as a neuro-oncologist. He completed a fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and a neurology residency at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

NEUROSURGERY

Kimberly Hamilton, MD, joins WVU Medicine Children’s as a pediatric neurosurgeon. She completed a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Emory University.

Jeremy Lewis, MD, joins WVU Medicine as the director of cranial base surgery at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was previously co-director of skull base surgery and associate program director at the University of New Mexico Hospital.

OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY

Ryan Heitmann, DO, joins the WVU Center for Reproductive Medicine as a reproductive endocrinologist. He previously served in the United States Army at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. Dr. Heitmann was a clinical assistant professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine and assistant professor at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed a reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellowship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda.

Megan Varvoutis, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She completed a maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at Duke University and an obstetrics and gynecology residency at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Varvoutis is an active researcher who is also supported by the WV Clinical Translational Science Institute.

OTOLARYNGOLOGY

Chadi Makary, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a rhinology specialist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Makary previously practiced at WVU Medicine in Martinsburg, West Virginia. He completed an otolaryngology residency at WVU.

PATHOLOGY

Reima El Naili, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a surgical pathologist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. El Naili completed an oncologic surgical pathology fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida and a fellowship in cytopathology at University of Texas in San Antonio, Texas.

Cara Randall, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a hematopathologist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Randall completed training in anatomic/clinical pathology and a hematopathology fellowship at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

PEDIATRICS

David Huss, MD, joins WVU Medicine Children’s as a pediatric neurologist. He completed a pediatric, child neurology, and neurodevelopmental disabilities residency and fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Maggie Likes, MD, joins WVU Medicine Children’s as a pediatric cardiologist. Dr. Likes most recently practiced at Seattle Children's Hospital.

Vinod Valentine, MD, joins WVU Medicine Children’s as a pediatric neurologist. He completed a pediatric neurology residency at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

PULMONARY AND CRITICAL CARE MEDICINE

Bathmapriya Balakrishnan, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a pulmonary and critical care medicine physician at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He completed a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at Henry Ford Health System.

RADIATION ONCOLOGY

Vladimir Valakh, MD, joins the WVU Cancer Institute as a radiation oncologist. He previously practiced at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

RHEUMATOLOGY

Devanshu Verma, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a rheumatologist at the Suncrest Towne Centre clinic. Dr. Verma completed a fellowship at Hahnemann University Hospital/Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

SURGERY

Mary Kledzik, MD, joins the WVU Cancer Institute as a surgical oncologist. Dr. Kledzik trained at John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California and at Wake Forest in North Carolina.

Douglas Murken, MD, joins the WVU Cancer Institute as a colorectal surgeon and surgical oncologist. Dr. Murken trained at the University of Pennsylvania.

Nicholas Chill, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency medicine and sports medicine physician practicing at United Hospital Center. Dr. Chill completed a sports medicine fellowship at WVU.

Payam Fallahi, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute as an interventional cardiologist and medical director of quality at Berkeley Medical Center. Dr. Fallahi was a former partner at Hagerstown Heart in Hagerstown, Maryland as well as former chief of cardiology at Meritus Medical Center, also in Hagerstown.

Dakshina Murthy, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute as a non-invasive cardiologist at Wetzel County Hospital. Previously, Dr. Murthy was director of the heart function clinic as well as an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Saskatchewan School of Medicine.

Teresa Bigley, DO, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency medicine physician at Camden Clark Medical Center. She was previously employed in Marietta, Ohio.

David Musser, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute as a vascular surgeon at Camden Clark Medical Center. Dr. Musser previously practiced at WellSpan Vascular Surgery in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
